Unite to End Hunger and Homelessness on College Campuses
Registration is now open for the second annual #RealCollege Convening on food and housing insecurity among students, which will take place the weekend of October 23rd at Temple University in Philadelphia. The convening, organized by the Wisconsin HOPE Lab, will bring together leaders in the fields of education, policy, and research to inspire action to end student hunger and homelessness.
Growing evidence suggests that food and housing insecurity is a critical struggle facing students on college campuses. Wisconsin HOPE Lab’s 2015 report, Hungry to Learn, surveyed students from 10 community colleges across the country. The findings revealed one in five students reporting hunger and 13% reporting housing instability. The 2017 #RealCollege Convening will continue to build momentum in addressing this emerging crisis.
Matthew Morton will represent the Voices of Youth Count initiative at the 2017 #RealCollege Convening, speaking with a panel of experts on “Addressing Homelessness in Higher Education.” He will join researchers and professionals from across the country to discuss actionable interventions for student homelessness.
